I thought this was pretty cool.
Digital Back for Lomo Cameras
When I discovered Lomo photography I immediately wondered if there were any digital backs available for these wonderful cameras. I was only slightly surprised to find out that there wasn’t, mostly because the Diana F and Holgas are low cost and probably not considered by mainstream photography as worth the trouble to create one. This is really sad because these cameras take really amazing photos and I would like to be able to immediately see and print my photos. There is already an instant back so I wanted to take that idea to the next level and create a digital back.
Most of the digital backs that are on the market that have been created are for higher end cameras like the Hasselblad or Leica; these digital backs being very expensive. On the other end are adapters that allow you to add the Diana F or Holga lens to a higher end camera or software that simulates the affect of the Lomo camera.
My digital back for the Lomo or Holga will be cheap enough that it can be considered an affordable accessory for most photographers using these Lomo cameras and have features that aren’t present in most or all high end digital cameras.
- Take pictures and store those pictures on a mircoSD card.
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capability that allows you to connect to a network or mobile device and transfer those photos automatically to storage.
- Bluetooth that allows you to immediately view the photos on another device.
- View pictures on the digital back as you take them.
- Automatic upgrade of the firmware over a network to update the digital back.
- The ability to create or purchase software for the digital back, open source based.
- Hardware that is off the shelf and easily assembled and modified as needed.
- Hardware that can be repurposed to use in other vintage cameras.
